An additional to our own data, the analysis abounds with numerous available literature sources, giving the ground for a comprehensive comparison of issues of the seal’s biology, being considered in the monograph, with those concerning other similar subspecies that inhabit various parts of its range. An attempt is made for the first time to describe all the organ systems (except for the muscular one), as well as body growth and development. Breeding, feeding, distribution and abundance issues are also viewed. Description of habitats, is made. One chapter of the monograph is devoted to the problems of this species environment protection and conservation of its population in view of steadily growing anthropogenic pressure on biological resources in the area of islands inhabited by insular seal. The book is aimed at zoologists, morphologists, ecologists, biogeography’s, specialists in the field of environment protection, as well as at higher education lecturers and students.
